Vee Technologies Helps India Land on the Moon

SALEM, INDIA, August 25, 2023 - On Wednesday, August 23, India became the first nation to perform a soft landing near the moon’s south pole. Chandrayaan-3, a lander and rover, successfully reached the surface after entering lunar orbit on August 5th.

This occasion proved especially momentous for Vee Technologies, a professional services organization, which was involved in the creation of the motor for this mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Together with Team SonaSPEED of fellow organization of The Sona Group, Vee Technologies developed the simplex permanent magnet stepper motor for the actuator assembly of the three-stage medium-lift launch vehicle. The motor propelled the robotic craft into orbit and controlled the engine’s fuel and oxidizer ratio. Thanks to the help of engineers at Vee Technologies and Sona College, India joins the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China as the only countries to have achieved a soft landing on the moon.

Chocko Valliappa, Vice Chairman of The Sona Group, CEO of Vee Technologies, and Vice Chairman of Sona College of Technology, commented on the landmark event, saying, “Supporting the ISRO with the manufacturing and design of SonaSPEED motors is a testament to the engineering excellence of two Sona Group organizations: Sona College of Technology and Vee Technologies. We are proud to have created the critical stopper motors for the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission.”

Vee Technologies’ reputation as a leader in Indian aerospace and defense earned it the opportunity to work on this significant development in the history of space exploration. In addition to precision engineering for the defense, space, and automotive industries in India, Vee Technologies offers groundbreaking services in architecture, construction, product engineering, and product manufacturing in the United States and abroad. As a leading service provider to the American healthcare industry, Vee Technologies supports many of the largest American health payers, hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers with revenue cycle management, medical coding services, claims management, and more.

Chandrayaan-3 will spend two weeks on the moon’s surface, gathering photographs, data, and samples for further research. The lander and rover are equipped with payloads engineered to collect data about the surface’s thermal, chemical, mineralogical, and reflective properties. Because the south pole is one of the moon’s most unexplored areas, the mission has great implications for lunar science and exploration.
