Our founder M.S. Chockolingam was a strong man, with extreme focus and determination. He was strict for quality, in the 1950's when quality and customer satisfaction were unheard of, he went to a client and informed him about the variations in the product that came out for a week, next week he apologized without realizing that this was a wrong company. The owner of the company was so impressed saying, no one cares for quality even after a compliant, and we have him as a customer till date.
He was passionate about coffee farming and bought coffee plantations to become one of the largest coffee plantation owners. He believed in philanthropy and believed that our educational Institutions should be our Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) as a pay back to the people. Towards this our educational institutions are not for profit. What we earn is all ploughed back into the institutions. At an age of 80 years, when everyone will prefer to retire and lead a relaxed life, he dreamt of building a state-of-the-art Engineering College and an MBA school.
This focus led him to start the Sona College of Technology
(www.sonauniversity.com)Our Chairman Mr. C. Valliappa is the man with great values and principles. He built his base in Bangalore and is one of the pillars of the huge Textile Industry in the State of Karnataka (being the Chairman of Karnataka Textile Association till date).
He is builder at heart. He started constructing Sona Towers, an entertainment company approached him to setup a disco in the building. He said he wants to build this building that will be the future of India and wanted to be known as Industrialist Valliappa and not Disco Valliappa.
He had a trust in the IT destiny of India. When he brought in Texas Instruments to India, he was instrumental in placing Bangalore on the world IT map.
He also realized that Bandwidth will be a critical issue in the future world. With this he was involved in creating and establishing the infrastructure of VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited). VSNL has since grown to become one of the top 10 Bandwidth companies of the world. He co-founded VSTP, an information service provider.
Chocko Valliappa, a technologist started Management and Textile Technology comapny. Being an Industrial engineer at heart, he setup a Textile plant which had 160 employees on roller seats. He established the group's global footprint. He setup humors’ and partnerships in nearly every part of the world from Spain to Chechnya and from Sweden to Italy in Europe and from New Zealand and Australia to Korea; and from Malaysia to Canada and USA.
In the 1990's he saw that overseas companies, particularly IT companies wanted to come to India, but did not want to insist on India. Chocko saw a good name and setup VSTP, Valliappa Software Technology Park, an Infrastructure and Incubation Company. VSTP provided total office space where IT companies just hired computer boxes and people with the core idea to start operations in just one day. VSTP was instrumental in bringing companies like Oracle and Cisco to India. These companies started with about 75 seats in VSTP and today have grown to tens of thousands.
In the late 1990's Chocko saw that the benefits of the Indian IT/Software story will percolate to the business process. The dot net burst and the markets required companies to perform better. With this vision & connection he set up Vee Technologies.
